Making Waves

As the temperature rises, it’s the perfect time to take a swim in one of Britain’s last remaining historic outdoor pools and lidos, like Brockwell Park Lido in London, pictured here. Historic Pools of Britain aims to become the leading authority on the nation’s historic swimming pools, recognising the contribution to our nation’s culture that they make, from Govanhill Baths in Glasgow to Lido Ponty in Wales to Saltdean Lido …

Suffragette – Charity Premiere

Shakespeare Unleashed: how to lead a life less ordinary

It is our firm belief that creativity is our most natural, accessible and valuable human asset – it’s our greatest gift.  It helps us succeed, solve problems and lead a life less ordinary.   Enabling children to develop this gift through the greatest creative mind that ever lived, through the language and stories that help us to understand the flaws and frailty of the human condition, is why we believe that Shakespeare Week is a fantastic opportunity; realised and brought to life by the Shakespeare Birthplace Trust.   Wherever we go, Shakespeare is with us.  He lives on in …

Britain Votes, at the People’s History Museum in Manchester explores the nature of democracy in a candid and sincere fashion that is far removed from the complacency we often get when museums try and do politics.”  Stephanie Boland, New Statesman. It’s one of the most important exhibitions you’ll see this year.  Election! In praise of the Whitworth #galleryinthepark

We were lucky enough to go to the preview of the new Whitworth Art Gallery at the weekend and now we can take part in the big reveal.  So here are a few of our snaps, that don’t really do it justice – you have to go to truly appreciate. It’s gone from being one of Manchester’s most prized buildings and collections to a dazzling world-class showcase.  We were impressed, proud and worried about tripping over Cornelia Parker’s art, all at once. www.whitworth.manchester.ac.uk
