Creating a splash for Victoria Baths

Fido turned on the taps to turn the nation on to a crucial moment in the ongoing restoration story of Victoria Baths.

Needing to achieve match funding for a heritage funding application, a ‘swim for heritage’ day would create the sort of splash to make a high impact.

The first public swim at Manchester’s Water Palace in 24 years was a moment of history in its own right, which stirred people’s hearts and minds. Taking place on Sunday 17 May 2017 “It sold out quicker than Glastonbury”. This line from The Guardian would give a sense of the excitement set to unfold, with Victoria Baths trending on twitter at no.6 on the Friday before the day of the event. When the first swimmers hit the water a line up of national media was there to capture the occasion.

Fundraising was boosted by nearly £5k, with the resulting national and global profile and impact priceless.

This swim was a special one off event at Victoria Baths, which is used as a heritage venue for arts and cultural events. We have been supporting the project since 2003 and dream of the time this gem can be fully restored.

Gold CIPR NW Award winner for best Arts, Culture or Sport Campaign 2017.
